Jasmine Cheape to Psychopathic Killer
Jasmine was our main character which turned out to be the a psychotic femme fatale killer, something which goes against many horror films. A male killer is usually expected to be seen in the horror genre so by having a female killer we are going against our audiences expectations. In our horror Jasmine kills her victims in a sexy and feminine way by wearing heels, a dress and nail varnish. We decided Jasmine would fit this role perfectly due to her long blonde hair and feminine looks which would conform well to our plans of the perfect 'femme fatale' type killer we wanted to create. We took inspiration from films such as Carrie and Basic Instinct which both challenge horror film conventions of having a female killer. Also we felt Jas suited the part of a killer due to the fact in a slasher sub genre she could be seen to conform to Wes Craven's idea of the 'final girl' with the blonde hair. Therefore, we are able to see how Jas conforms to the characteristics of a femme fatale but at the same time challenges the normal conventions of a slasher sub genre. This meant Jas was perfect for the role of the killer because she could easily be compared to other iconic killers.

Richard to Victim
We picked Richard as our victim because we didn't want to conform to the stereotypical 'slasher' horror where the male kills the female. So we aimed to flip these gender roles by making Richard our main victim within the trailer. This then contrasts to stereotypes we have on males as they're presented by the media as being the most dominant and powerful sex. Our horror is then juxtaposing from typical characters as Richard has broad shoulders and is much taller than Jasmine. By doing this our audience will be confused yet attracted to the film because they want to know what the killers motive is. Our trailer is not going to reveal the backstory on why Richard is the victim as we want our target audience to want to find that out after watching. We wanted to completely challenge conventions of horror and therefore found inspiration difficult to find in other horror films. However, Basic Instinct, again, contains a character we felt linked perfectly to our character. |
