Horror title choices and why scorned?
Before choosing the title scorned we wanted to do some research into what title would be most effective for our film and its themes.
For example, the title Femme Fatale would've been effective to use for our horror film however when researching we found that this name for a horror film was already being used. After discovering this we knew needed to find a word used to describe a female sexy killer who goes against stereotypes we usually have of women. Our female killer's motive is love and being cheated on by her ex-boyfriend. She refuses to be made a fool out of by the man so chooses to kill him as she looks down on his actions and knows that she can do better. She gets entertainment out of his death which shows how she lacks remorse. The background of our narrative can link to the famous quote "Like a woman scorned" found in William Congreve's The Morning Bride. This quote is commonly applied to ladies who have been rejected romantically as the word 'scorned' means to be mocked or looked down on. Although our main character is scorned by her ex-boyfriend many could argue that she herself scornes her ex-boyfriend. Therefore, after this contextual research we came up with the title 'Scorned' as the double meaning makes it effective to the narrative. We feel that it really sums up our horror film as the film is based around her motive. |
