The Silence of the Lambs trailer is going to be significant when it comes to the editing process. This is because the trailer builds suspense throughout and then nearer the end the pace speeds up by showing many shots of scenes throughout the film. This is something we are planning to incorporate into our trailer as it grips the audience by showing only short clips of the film. Also the police investigation being intertwined within the narrative is something which really adds to the tension.
As well as this, the gore within the film is another element we were inspired by and that we are planning to focus more on in our trailer. The way someone murders their victim says a lot about their character which is why we decided to choose the prop of a knife instead of Hannibal Lector who kills and eats people. |
We aim for our trailer to be heavily influenced by Basic Instinct as we were inspired by the way the femme fatale kills her victims- using a knife. This is effective as we wouldn't usually associate a knife murder with a female due to the blood and gore it would create. Therefore, by contradicting this stereotype the audience will feel frightened and anxious for what is to come.

The 1992 Thriller of Basic Instinct is a film we took particular inspiration from in terms of characters. This film is effective because of the props and actress choice. The main protagonist is presented as blonde, sexy and cunning, something which we really wanted to portray in our horror trailer. Furthermore, we love the fact she goes against stereotypes of females in horror films as they usually play the part of the victim, especially blonde women. Catherine Tramwell goes against other horror/thriller films because of the fact she's classy and rich. This is portrayed through her stiletto heels and expensive dress which makes her look like a sexual object to men. These props go against this stereotype and is an element of this trailer which we are inspired by. Therefore, this thriller is effective because it attracted both female and male audiences because of the sexy, yet iconic female, and the twisted narrative.

The lighting within Lights Out inspired us to create dark, low key lighting throughout the film as it conforms to typical horror films where the tense and torturous scenes happen in the dark. With many of the scenes containing minimal lighting, this adds suspense because the audience aren't fully seeing the characters. However, although most of the trailer is filmed in the dark some shots, mostly providing context, are filmed in the day time in order to break it up.

The character who stars as Jason Voorhees within Friday The 13th inspired us to create a brutal but mind thrilling trailer for our A Level project. Although we do not copy the actions of death we take inspiration through the killer's persona. By saying few to no words, possessing brute strength and a pure instinct for murder, we have created a unique and to a degree, a more realistic and believable killer. The characteristics of the killer is slowly revealed throughout the film which is something we wish to convey in our trailer to build the suspense. Also the fact the killer has a mask links to the idea of our killer hiding behind a balaclava when murdering her victims.
