After publishing our trailer online for everyone to see, we did some research into what our audience thought about our trailer. This included a short survey to be distributed across our target audience to be filled in in order to gain a non-biased opinion. Finding out the opinion from people who have watched the trailer will allow us to be able to see where we could improve our trailer and also see what we have done well. Throughout the development of our trailer, we found that audience feedback was extremely valuable. In order to show what we have learned from our audience feedback, we decided to compare and reflect on the feedback we had previously obtained before the creation of the full trailer. To reach a range of different demographics, we used various methods to collect our feedback concerning our trailer, magazine cover and poster.
Questionnaire:
We decided to construct a range of questions to ask our audience in order to gain feedback.
- How did you find our trailer?
- Did the trailer make feel like you wanted to watch the actual film?
- Did the music make the trailer more scary and tense?
- What images were most effective and eye catching to you?
- Were the titles we used easy to follow?
- What age range do you believe best fits our target audience?
- Do you feel our trailer got more tense as it carried on?
- Did you like the background we made and used for our titles?
- Did you like the idea of having a female killer?
- Do you feel our trailer got more tense as it carried on?

Audience reactions:
After constructing and gaining feedback from our questionnaires and survey we came to a decision to film some reactions to our trailer so people could explain their feedback and ideas about our trailer. We could then analyse their reactions.
After constructing and gaining feedback from our questionnaires and survey we came to a decision to film some reactions to our trailer so people could explain their feedback and ideas about our trailer. We could then analyse their reactions.
This clip shows us everyone's reaction to our trailer and allows us to analyse their reactions and thoughts:
- Using a female killer was successful as it challenges conventions and the 'red' props were effective in representing this character.
- We could improve our trailer by including clips of more victims being killed, and by doing this show more guts and gore.
- People wanted to know more about the motive of our killer, although this goes against the process of releasing a trailer and how we want to only hint at the narrative to make our audience want to know more about the film. However, after this we learnt that we could've included more clips from throughout our film showing some hints of what may happen.
- After this feedback we found that our shots at the beginning which set the scene and introduce the killer were the most significant and memorable.
Here, we can see that our Facebook feedback matched the audience reaction interviews. The way we used a female killer has really stood out and made our horror trailer a success in terms of interest. Our editing has also been credited on Facebook with our use of titles, transitions and close up shots. |

Facebook feedback on poster:
After creating our poster we uploaded it to Facebook to get a reaction from friends and family with some feedback. We got lots of positive feedback from this and found that our poster was effective. These comments showed that even before we improved the image by including blood splats on the floor we already had a good reaction which showed how we were going to reach our target audience.
Conclusion:
Overall, we felt that the audience feedback we received was really helpful to us when trying to make choices about our trailer, poster and magazine throughout our project because it showed us what kind of thing people are most interested in. We all agreed that making something in which the audience wants to see is the most important thing when you are hoping to profit from your project and create something that is going to be popular throughout it's time released.
Our feedback also showed us what we need to work harder on in future and what we could change which was helpful. Some of these things are that if we had more time for our project, we could have had a bigger advertising campaign and we could have made another trailer with more dialogue in to see which trailer people prefer more.
