Classic horror conventions:
Women in horrors
In many horror films females are considered to be vulnerable and weaker. Typically, a blonde girl is associated with the word 'dim' therefore when it comes to being killed, they are the most vulnerable and more likely to be killed first. Men are portrayed as strong and powerful in horror films and are usually seen with a cruel motive against women. However, in our trailer we aren't going to conform to these stereotypes of women in our trailer. Instead of our killer being a man with a motive it's instead going to be a female. Our trailer will then grip the audience because it's something we don't often see in horror films. Some films which include a female villain don't always include relatable motives whereas our film will take this into consideration and not conform to 'feminine' ways of killing. |
The Ring and The Grudge
These films are examples of horror films which include female killers with no particular hatred for a specific gender. Unlike Slasher horror films such as Scream which include a male killer whose main focus is on women. Again, our trailer is going to contradict the stereotype of female killers being without a common motive. |
